INTRODUCTION

In line with the development of Patients and Family Rights Standards requirement, MSQH has addressed the need of enhancing the knowledge of healthcare staff on organ donation.

This year, MSQH together with National Transplant Resource Centre is looking into opening its workshop to the healthcare staff of private hospitals around Malaysia, hence, improving the quality of healthcare service in the country.

This training is targeted to health institution managers, educators, and healthcare providers in private sectors.

OBJECTIVES

  1. To create awareness among hospital staff regarding organ donation and transplantation in Malaysia.  Hospital staff will be able to differentiate between organ donation and transplantation as well as understand the needs to reduce the number of patients in the waiting list.
  2. To guide private hospitals in setting up TOP teams, explain the roles of TOP team members and describe the workflow of the organ/tissue donation.
  3. Educate hospital staff on brain death thus enabling them to explain brain death to fellow colleagues and the public.
  4. To identify and understand grief and bereavement, learn techniques in breaking bad news and handling bereaving family members.
  5. To educate hospital staff on family communication and organ donation conversation.
  6. To educate hospital staff on the role and function of Pusat Sumber Transplan Nasional.

AIMS

To increase donor detection, referrals and actual donors in Malaysia.  Encourage hospital staff to promote organ donation in their hospitals and thus, help increase the number of pledgers in Malaysia.

Equipped with the knowledge from GRODA, hospital staff will be able to apply communication skills in other aspects of their daily working lives, indirectly improving the quality of service in their institute.
